The 1982 film "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" is a comedy inspired by late 1940's crime and detective films.

The film is set in 1946 according to a date on a notice. A woman hires a private detective to find her father. They trace the father to an island off the coast of Peru where they encounter some bad guys.
