"Have Gun Will Travel" was a half-hour television program which ran on the CBS television network from 1957 to 1963. It was a Western set in the period 1870 to 1890.
 
Paladin is the assumed name of a man who lives in San Francisco where he is a gentleman and man about town. He takes jobs as a hired gun man and bodyguard.
 
The title of the program comes from the business card which Paladin uses. The card has a chess knight logo on it and reads: "Have Gun Will Travel / Wire Paladin / San Francisco."
 
This episode is titled "The Search" and was first broadcast on June 18, 1960.
 
A mother asks Paladin to locate her long-missing son. Her other son accompanies Paladin to a small town. A local man pays people with silver dollars for doing jobs for him. A hat with three Morgan dollars is shown.

The Hotel Carlton is Paladin's residence in the city.
 
Paladin (Richard Boone) is asked by Lane Kilmer (Wright King) to visit his dying mother Mrs. Kilmer (Lillian Bronson) who is staying at the hotel.

2. Paladin visits Mrs. Kilmer
Mrs. Kilmer asks Paladin to find her other son Martin Kilmer who disappeared twenty years ago. Paladin takes the assignment and Lane tells Paladin that they hired a detective who claimed that he found Martin in Harper City, a small western town. The detective then disappeared.
 
Paladin and Lane travel to Harper City which has a full-service sheriff.

3. Sheriff Plummer
The sheriff's sign indicates that he has other professions. Paladin visits the sheriff and asks about Martin Kilmer and the missing detective but gets no help.

4. Fred Harper
The sheriff visits Fred Harper (Charles Aidman), the local big man who the town is named after Harper likes to carry and use a large whip.
 
The sheriff tells Harper about the two visitors and Harper reaches for a silver dollar.

5. Harper handles silver dollar
Harper's whip is lying on the table.
 
Paladin visits a stable and talks to Shorty (Ted Markland) and offers him a silver dollar for information.

6. Paladin offers silver dollar
Shorty tells Paladin that the detective was killed and probably by Harper. For this he receives another silver dollar.
 
Shorty then reports to Harper.

Shorty receives another silver dollar making three in his hat.

Paladin watches a local preacher, Fred Mosely (Perry Cook).

Fred Mosely preaches a sermon about the Biblical brothers Cain and Abel.
 
Harper doesn't like Paladin and attacks him with his whip.

10. Fred Mosely defends Paladin
Mosely blocks the whip and both are injured. Mosely then takes Paladin to his house for first aid. Paladin learns that Harper enjoys killing men and that he is Martin Kilmer, the missing brother. Paladin finds Fred Mosely murdered by Martin.

11. Paladin goes to settle things
Lane Kilmer tells Paladin that his brother Martin murdered another brother and tried to kill Lane.
 
Paladin goes to Martin's house and finds him dead, killed by Lane.
 
The sheriff has suspected what might happen and sneaks into Martin's house.

12. The sheriff takes advantage
The sheriff steals some cash.
 
Paladin and Lane try to decide what to tell Lane's mother about Martin.

13. Paladin advises Lane
Paladin suggests a Bible story about a good man (Fred Mosely).
