Crusader Fatimid Dinar Imitation
1. Crusaders Imitation of Fatimid Dinar, Acre, No date
Gold, 20 mm, 3.90 gm

These coins were copied from Islamic Fatimid Dynasty gold dinars minted in Egypt in the 12th century. These were minted by the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem presumably at the fortress town of Acre during the period AD 1148 to 1187.

For this coin the Crusaders used as the base a Fatimid Egypt dinar and copied the legends including the mint location, Islamic date, and a quotation from the Koran. The original coin was issued by the Fatimid Caliph al-Amir (al-Amir bi-Ahkam Allah), who ruled Egypt from AD 1101 to 1130. The date on this coin is unreadable.

The Islamic legends on the coin if real would read:

Outer Margin: Quran Surah 9:33
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, who sent him with guidance and the religion of truth
that he might make it supreme over all religions although the polytheists disliked it.
